The course was a truly enriching experience, and I've gained a wealth of knowledge that has left me feeling more confident as a driver. It has given me an understanding of the potential risks associated with my work and, more importantly, how to best mitigate them.

The course provided an excellent balance between theory and practical lessons, ensuring that I not only understood the rules of the road but also had ample hands-on experience to be a confident and competent driver. Colin is an amazing instructor who is not only highly knowledgeable and skilled, but also patient, understanding, and incredibly supportive throughout the learning process. Their expertise in teaching, coupled with their friendly demeanour, made the learning environment enjoyable and comfortable. I look forward to applying what I've learned in practice and sharing my learnings with the rest of my team.

This Letter of Support is being supplied to indicate our total support of the efforts of the Advanced Driver Training Centre in providing driver education and training to secondary school students.

As a school with a long previous involvement with the training organisation, we are aware of the value of the programs they run along with the contribution the organisation has made to the Charters Towers area in the past.

As a pilot School of the initial program All Souls St Gabriels School has witnessed firsthand the success with which our students engaged with their safe driver programs, learning valuable lessons about not only how to deal with the effects of road trauma, but also providing them with skills to avoid being in an accident.

In the time the program was delivered in Charters Towers, many members of the community ranging from small business owners to members of the Police and Ambulance Services, to Councilors and Members of Parliament contributed to the delivery of the program and successful messages surrounding the importance of safe and responsible driving to our students.

The continuation of an organisation such as Advanced Driver Training is key to skilling our youth for life ‘on the road’ and equipping them with skills required to be both responsible, safe and defensive drivers into the future.

This organisation, based in our region, is the most suitable organisation to deliver programs such as these to our students as they have a unique understanding and first-hand experience of the complexities of youth lifestyle choices, as well as North Queensland roads and traffic conditions relevant to students in our community.

We believe this company to be a great asset to the entire community of Charters Towers and we fully support their application for funding to enable the continued delivery of driver education programs to the youth of Charters Towers into the future.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require additional information or clarification of any aspect of this letter of support.

We look forward to hearing of the successful outcome of the Advanced Driver Training Centre’s application for funding in due course.

Yours Sincerely
Darren Fleming | Headmaster

Emergency department joins forces with driver training to save teen lives. Townsville University Hospital’s emergency department has joined forces with a local Driver Education Organisation to teach high school learner and P-plate drivers safety on the road, with the hope of preventing young driver accidents and deaths on our roads.

I would like to offer this letter of support for the road safety education programs offered by the Advanced Driver Training Centre (ADTC). I have met with Colin and Mark from ADTC and reviewed their proposed Safe Driver School program. I believe the program offers an innovative and unique approach that will greatly assist in changing young driver behaviour and reduce the impact of road trauma in our community.

The program encourages young drivers to become proactive behind the wheel and take responsibility for ensuring their own safety. It teaches students about the psychology that helps determine our driving behaviour. The program looks at fatigue, distraction, speed and the importance of seatbelt compliance – all factors that contribute to our road toll - as well as useful information about what to do in an accident and even how to safely change a tyre.

Currently, P-platers are six times more likely to be involved in an accident and are sadly over-represented in the road toll. I see a significant benefit in young drivers attending the ADCT Safe Driver School Program and believe it has the potential to help establish a fundamental shift in attitudes and behaviours that will lead to a lifetime of safe driving. I understand that ADTC is also looking to develop programs with other vulnerable groups within our community and I am excited to see how this develops.

Yours sincerely
